Sunday 10 January 2021 from 20:00
Deep under London’s busy streets lies a fascinating and filthy tale of disease and poverty, Victorian engineering and how one man saved London from –
The Great Stink.
Join for a virtual trawl through the vast sewer systems beneath the city, using pictures, video footage and eye witness accounts.
We will follow the story of London’s waste, from the early days of the ” night soil” collectors, to the stinking River Fleet. Where Londoners disposed of everything from dead cows to human corpses.
To Joseph Bazalgette, the engineer who designed 450 miles of tunnels under London (and the Embankment) to clean up the city.
