Castle Mound

Castle Mound or Motte as it would have been known in medieval times is one of the few remnants of Bedford Castle, which was built by Henry 1st after 1100. At that time a large part of Bedford as we know it today would have been within its walls. Today, however, the mound and a few remnants of the walls are all that remain. It is though worth the walk to the top to look over the river and along The Embankment.
