The Ship

The Ship in St Cuthbert’s Street has recently undergone a major refurbishment and what pleasing difference it has made. The quality of the finish is very high standard with an amazing attention to detail rarely seen these days. Isabelle oversees the day to day operations with her friendly highly professional team, nothing it seems is too much trouble.

There are still three main drinking areas but now they easily flow from one to another, each area has an identity of its own, but together they combine to make a modern pub while still retaining the original features.

The small bar at the front now has the perfect traditional pub feel and is an ideal meeting area for either a social event or business meeting with either drinks or coffee and maybe a light lunch.

The larger front bar offers a more relaxed atmosphere for lunch or an evening meal or just drinks with friends or family.

The rear bar is great for meeting up with friends and offers a mixture of high tables and chairs plus a very nice little area where a larger group can relax to eat and drink almost in private.

Moving on to the garden there are plenty of tables and chairs arranged on different levels which makes you feel comfortable and almost as if you are at home. Our four-legged friends have not been forgotten as they have their own drinking station. If the evening should get a little chilly, blankets are available just inside the rear door (is there nothing they haven’t thought off)

The drinks menu has something for everyone Gins, Vodka’s, Cocktails, Spirits plus all the usual beers and wines plus a large selection of bottled and craft beers. You can download a drinks menu here

Moving onto the food menu IT’S HUGE! There’s Starters, Burgers’ Steaks, Salads, Chicken, Sandwiches, and Wraps plus a Sunday Lunch offering. Vegetarians have not been forgotten either as there are a number of dishes for them too. Get your menu here.

Thursday is music quiz night, starting at 8 pm for teams of 2 – 6 people at £1.00 pp

In conclusion, The Ship used to be a place to stop for a drink on the way into or from town, but now with Isabelle and her friendly team, it’s a destination in its own right.
